World Impact: Myanmar
Christian Church in Myanmar
Myanmar, also known as Burma, is a nation of 59 million people located in mainland South East Asia. Myanmar shares borders with China, Laos, Thailand, Bangladesh and India. The vast majority of Myanmar nationals are Buddhist (89.8%), but the Pentecostal witness is growing. Pentecostalism came to Myanmar in the early twentieth century, and it has now become the most dynamic Christian movement in the nation.
Rev. J. Ral Buai organized the United Pentecostal Church in Myanmar nearly 40 years ago. Under his leadership, the church has grown to over 16,000 constituents, 469 licensed ministers, and 464 churches and preaching points.
Myanmar is closed to Christian Missionaries, but North Cities has still been able impact the nation. About 10 years ago, the church supplied the funds to build a church building in Hakha, the capital city of the Chin State of Myanmar. Today, that church has become the largest UPC local assembly in Myanmar, with 1,100 members, 3 pastors and 4 staff members. This church has in turned planted another local church which itself has a congregation of 250 members.
North Cities is reaching out to Myanmar again. A major need in the nation is a clean water supply. The Bible School in Myanmar does not have access to clean water, and students have to be provided with bottled water at great expense to the ministry. North Cities is supplying the funds to purchase a permanent water filtration system for the Bible School, which will reduce expenses and prevent the possibility of many water-borne illnesses.
Thank you for your continued support of Missions through Faith Promise Giving and prayer. North Cities is impacting the world—locally and globally!
