God is not interested in saving people to swell the rolls of church memberships; rather, God is interested in saving people to make disciples out of them. The difference between the two categories is evident, but worth specifying. The first group is satisfied with knowing about God. The second group is interested in knowing God.
The Apostle Paul made it clear in the Book of Romans that there are certain things that can be known about God through natural revelation. However, only by studying the Bible do we get to know God. When we take the time to study His word, we become amazed that the God of the universe informs us, ”I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore I have drawn you with loving-kindness” (Jeremiah 31:3).
While His love for us is everlasting, He laments the fact that, “My people are destroyed for a lack of knowledge” (Hosea 4:6). This is not concerning the knowledge that is puffed up. However, the kind of knowledge gained from studying the Bible, which results in us becoming changed vessels in the hands of the master.
“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work” (2 Timothy 3:16-17).
That’s where the discipleship course, Foundations assists in equipping you to become the person God wants to use. Whether a new or veteran saint, the eight classes for each of the two levels of Foundations offer an opportunity for the Bible to teach you: truth, which sanctifies us; guidance, for God’s word is a lamp unto our feet; growth, a desire for the pure milk of the word so that we may grow; and power, the gospel of Jesus Christ is the power of God.
