Loving God, Serving People
Garland Church Serving the Garland Community
Jesus was once approached by a scribe who asked what He considered to be the greatest of all the commandments.
Jesus answered him, “The first of all the commandments is: ‘Hear, O Israel, the LORD our God, the LORD is one. And you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment. And the second, like it, is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these” (Mark 12:29-31, NKJV).
With this simple yet powerful statement, Jesus provided the essential components of right living: love God supremely, and serve others willingly. It is the vision of North Cities to Connect People to God, Others, and Purpose and thus enable and inspire the living out these two great commandments.
North Cities members have been involved in several projects recently through which they have expressed their love for God by serving others:
- The morning after tornados ripped through the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, a group of church members partnered with Beef Master, a local business in Forney, to distribute food and water to victims and workers.
- In response to the tornado disaster in Lancaster, North Cities partnered with national Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD), the American Red Cross, and Reach Out America to supply a 53-foot tractor trailer filled with 40,000 lbs of supplies for victims.
- North Cities volunteers traveled to College Station, Texas and joined with other volunteers from around the state to build a church in one day. A video of this amazing event is available here: College Station Church in a Day.
- North Cities volunteers are currently working to facilitate a significant donation of books to the library of Urshan College / Urshan Graduate School of Theology. Volunteers are also working to distribute thousands of children’s books to local schools, libraries, and charitable organizations.
In these, and in many other ways, North Cities is fulfilling the vision of loving God through service to others. We are thankful for the many volunteers and partner organizations that have joined together to impact the community with God’s love.
