Open Hands Volunteers Serving the Dallas Community
Community Service in Garland, TX
On March 16, 2013, twenty-eight volunteers attended the kick-off event for the Open Hands ministry of North Cities. These volunteers helped fill 2,500 eggs for the Wilkinson Center’s annual Easter event that benefits around 400 children. These children are a part of the center’s after-school programs that take place on multiple campuses throughout the Dallas area. Adults and children alike participated in this community service project.
Since 1982, the Wilkinson Center has provided assistance to the Dallas community through their programs including food and emergency services, adult education classes, after-school programs and summer camps for children. The Wilkinson Center’s mission is to transform the lives of Dallas families by providing pathways to self-sufficiency with dignity and respect. If you are interested in volunteering for this organization, please pick up a volunteer application at the North Cities Information Center.
Open Hands’ next event will be held on Saturday, June 29th. We will be partnering with Jonathan’s Place in Garland. Annually, Jonathan’s Place provides a safe, loving home and specialized services for children who have been abused, abandoned or neglected for hundreds of children. If you are interested in “Connecting to your Purpose” by volunteering for this and other events, please pick up a volunteer application at the Information Center.
