Bible Quizzing: There is None Like It!
Studying the Bible
Bible Quizzing is an exciting student ministry that combines Bible study with friendly competition, fellowship, and discipleship. The Bible Quizzing ministry at North Cities embodies each of these elements and imparts strong study habits, time management skills, self-discipline, Christian character, and leadership traits into each teenage quizzer. What a powerful investment in the lives of students!
Bible Study
“Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.” (Psalm 119:11)
The Psalmist David declared “O, how love I thy law!” (Psalm 119:97). One of the primary goals of quizzing is to encourage the study of God’s Word. Not only are quiz coaches studying God’s Word along with quizzers, but quizzers are being taught how to study and memorize God’s Word for themselves.
“Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart…” (Jeremiah 15:16)
What portion of the Bible is studied in Bible quizzing? Obviously, the entire Bible cannot be studied in depth each year, so a material cycle has been developed. In 2012, quizzers will memorize 425 to 540 scriptures on core Apostolic doctrine!
Friendly Competition
In the loving context of Christ’s Body, competition can be an effective means for both wholesome fun and character development. Quiz tournaments take place at various levels:
- Local: Quizzers compete with teammates to gain experience and practice for competition at later levels.
- District: District tournaments involve teams across the state of Texas and are hosted by different churches each month.
- Regional: Four regions across the United States sponsor an extravaganza tournament each year, in which teams from multiple districts are invited to participate and compete in their respective region.
- Nationals: At the end of each quiz season, the top teams from each district across the United States compete at a national tournament to determine the national champion.
Fellowship
Bible quizzing sets the stage for wholesome Christian fellowship to occur. Many former quizzers agree that some of the deepest and longest-lasting friendships were formed through quizzing. Students have the opportunity to grow closer to their teammates and teenagers from other churches across the United Pentecostal Church.
Discipleship
Ultimately, the core mission of Bible quizzing is to produce disciples. Although we rejoice when our quizzers memorize the material, we rejoice even more when a quizzer applies that knowledge, builds a firm foundation, and shares the gospel to win souls!
When David was offered the sword of Goliath, he accepted it saying, “There is none like it; give it to me” (1 Samuel 21:9). The same is true of Bible Quizzing: There is none like it! As a result, the Church’s future will be brighter because of the high caliber of students that rise through the ranks of Bible Quizzing and enter the world ready to wield the Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.
